DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Last week business did not develop until Friday, but
when it finally got started it proved to be worth the wait. Southern live
deals were marked at mostly $210, $7 higher than the previous week's weighted
averages. Northern dressed trade had a range of $332 to $340, mostly $335,
$10 higher than the prior week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According
to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary
reports the weekly accumulated weighted averages were reported to be: KS $no
test ($202.61); NE $no test($325.23); TX $no test($202.67); IA
$330.00($324.53); CO not available due to confidentiality. (the prior week's
weighted averages are listed in parentheses). No significant trading had
developed by Thursday so there was no test reported in most areas, in Iowa
the trade reported was very minimal, so not enough to establish any kind of
an accurate trend for the week. Weekly weighted average highs will likely be
broken when summary reports are released a little later this morning.
The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 1,487; NE 17,538; TX 4,041, IA 15,995; CO NA due
to confidentiality. Due to the late week trade, totals will very likely be
higher when summaries are released later this morning. Friday's slaughter
totaled 100,000 head, 1,000 more than the prior week, but 9,000 less than a
year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 20,000 head, bringing the weekly
total to 560,000 head, 24,000 less than the previous week, but 33,000 under
2024. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice
$325.52 (+5.95), select $308.96(+1.93), with an average choice select spread
of $16.56(+4.02), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and
grinds of 567(-73), (Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending March 15, 2025, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 51,702, 104.76% of the previous week and 102.13% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be a typical Monday as both buyers and
sellers are busy taking inventory. Bids and asking prices are yet to be
established. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until much later
in the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be mixed with light box movement.
